"First and foremost, I have been impacted tremendously, in SO many ways by this family. All for the betterment of self. So, for that simple fact, I have to say, ‘Thank you”. Even though I say it all the time. A friend of mine introduced me to the Java and Jams space. He hinted at music and motivation minutes. What wasn’t told to me was how much I would get out of it. To break it down further is an honor because I hope it relates to others as well. And if someone reading this isn’t affiliated with the DHMG yet, I hope this note inspires.

During the motivational minutes, mindset and perspective are discussed quite regularly. And from an outsider’s point of view, anyone can talk about that right? Sure. What the outsider might not know is how to implement the tools and tricks on a day in and day out basis to become a better person. To see something from a different perspective is something I had never been able to do. Honestly. I was a shoot from the hip, only one way in and one way out, kind of thinker. One member of the DHMG family said, “change your perspective, change your life”. And at first, I didn’t hear it. But over the several episodes that followed, it began to sink in. That same person also inspired me to learn the difference between what I can and cannot control. “Inside/Outside” he said. I tuned in to hear this concept broken down and let me tell you, accepting that there is so much that we cannot control sounded like it was going to be impossible. But it’s not! It’s almost an art form to accept that! And the freeing feeling to let things go. Man, oh man. Sign me up for daily listening!

The acronym you will hear most often with this family is “PLP”. And here it is. Peace Love and Positivity. Some hippie stuff, I thought. And then in one episode, the concept was broken down further. Have Peace with others and Peace with self. Love others, but more importantly Love self. Share Positivity in every avenue, endeavor, and with everyone to the best of your ability. Do all these things and find yourself in a different mindset (see, there’s that word again). And the family was not wrong. I began to write down PLP everywhere as simple reminders. And in moments of what felt like chaos, I looked at PLP, and reminded myself to have peace. Breathe. Calm the mind. Respond and not react. And after practicing these things, I started to REALLY see a difference in my thinking and my actions! Whatever was happening, was working because I was putting it to WORK!

Now this one is big. At least for myself. You’ll often here the family talk about authenticity and acceptance. Even awareness. Three things I thought I had in the bag! I was wrong. Adolescent thinking at its finest at the time. I thought I was authentic and true to myself. What I did not realize was that I was trying to be what everyone around me WANTED me to be. (Even writing that now makes me cringe). That wasn’t authenticity. That was fake to the highest degree. At a pivotal moment in my web3 journey, the voices of ‘Mama Capp’ and Kelly O started to be heard louder than everyone else. And this is no offense to anyone else. But the words they spoke rang close to my chaotic spirit and mild insanity, as if to calmly hold my face and speak directly to me. They spoke calmly, from the heart, and said things that were incredibly relatable; captured my attention. Over time, several books were mentioned (and read), several journaling sessions were had, and one day an awakening happened. Life slapped me in the face harder that anything before. I went right to Kelly with this profound moment, and I knew it was time I come ‘home’. Now I won’t speak on this awakening here, but it was one of those things that sadly had to happen. A true shake by the shoulders - WAKE THE FUCK UP my inner self started to yell. Awareness. There it was. Back to Java and Jams I went, felt like my tail was between my legs. I got up on the stage and I sobbed. I felt broken and needed to get back to ME again. I was awaited by the biggest virtual hug I had ever received. Moving forward, things were going to change. And they did!

In moments of “defeat”, this family knows exactly what to say to remind you that you cannot be defeated unless you give up on yourself. And even better, this is a family that won’t give up on you. This is a family that shares their true-life stories, no matter how raw and vulnerable. Seizing opportunities to share their real-life experiences as they are lessons. And the simplest lesson I have learned is to always be ready with a pen and paper and an open mind."
